The post-op process can be such a challenge for many bariatric patients because Gastric Sleeve Surgery involves reducing the size of your stomach to a short tube shape.

Follow your Gastric Sleeve Diet

The first of our Gastric Sleeve Recovery Tips is related to the post-op diet.

The post-op diet can be the hardest part for many patients to maintain after Gastric Sleeve Surgery.

Eating solid foods too soon or foods high in fats and sugars could put you at risk of hurting or damaging your stomach.

Depending on how much time after your Gastric Sleeve Surgery (one, two, three or four weeks), make sure you are not eating foods high in calories, sugars or fats.

Avoid rice, bread, raw vegetables, and fresh fruits, as well as meats that are difficult to chew, such as pork and steak.

Ground meats are usually better to digest. đź‘Ť

Besides, always be sure to talk to your bariatric surgeon about how many calories you need each day.

They know you (and your body) and will give you a specific Gastric Sleeve Post Op Diet goal tailored to your particular needs.

Immediately following a Gastric Sleeve Surgery, patients are restricted in their movements, due to pain and the need for rest and recuperation.

Physical recovery after Gastric Sleeve may vary, but it generally takes at least two weeks for patients to be ready to return to work.

It may be some time before you can fully exercise after Gastric Sleeve Surgery. However, it is important to strengthen your muscles and return to walking, or light exercise as soon as possible.

But don’t push yourself too hard, or do too much too soon. Exercising too much could increase the chance of developing a hernia.

Try to perform only light tasks when you feel ready. Walking, being lightly active is good exercise, but don’t try anything like heavy lifting after Gastric Sleeve Surgery.

As you get through the initial recovery, your bariatric surgeon will normally recommend that you walk 3-5 times a day for about 5-10 minutes at a time. Avoid strenuous exercise at this stage of the Gastric Sleeve Post Op.

At around 2 months of recovery after Gastric Sleeve Surgery, the doctor will tell you to go ahead with all forms of light exercise and cardiovascular work.

Adhere to your post-op prescription

It is really important to follow your bariatric surgeon‘s prescription. Do not finish or stop taking your medication following a post-op Gastric Sleeve Surgery.

Do not take non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as aspirin, ibuprofen, Advil, Motrin, Aleeve, Naprosyn, Vioxx, and Celebrex.

These medications increase your risk of developing ulcers.

In case you feel any discomfort during your post-op Gastric Sleeve, consult your doctor.

Learn about Gastric Sleeve post-op care

Every bariatric surgery procedure will require medical follow-up.

The amount of aftercare necessary will largely depend on the bariatric procedure.

For example, a gastric banding patient will need more frequent follow-up than Gastric Bypass or Gastric Sleeve patients.

For dietary guidelines, it is vital to maintain fresh ideas for new recipes so food doesn’t become boring after your Gastric Sleeve Surgery.

Following your new diet and being proactive will help you enjoy the weight loss process so that the food does not become boring, or stale.

This will help you avoid the foods you should not eat, too. ✔️

During the months of recovery after Gastric Sleeve Surgery, you must follow all post-operative instructions and keep all follow-up appointments with the physician.
